Wake Up (When You're Ready)

Is there any other way?

You can’t force people to face what they aren’t ready to. In fact, they will freak out when exposed to an edge they’re not ready for.

I learned this lesson this past summer with my little thired grade cousin.

At a water park, many people stood on a bridge, waiting for a huge wave of water to soak them from head to toe.

My little cousin was so excited to do this, but when the wave was close to coming, she got very scared and ran behind a group of people to block herself from the water.

I extended my hand to her and she shook her head over and over. I said, “It’s not scary! Are you sure you don’t want to come up here?!”

I tugged on her hand to move her towards me and her reaction taught me a huge lesson. She froze, resisted, and flinched. She ran to the back and was genuinely terrified.

I realized that it was not my place to push her beyond her limits, even if I could see they were based on her own inner creation.

It is not our place to force people to face the unknown and potentially frightening, even if we know with all our hearts stepping outside their comfort zone can yield beautiful transformations.

In recognizing my niche, I know very distinticly that the people I reach are brave and willing to ask questions, dig deep, and are eager to transform for the better.

Many (if not most) of the population seems very content to stay within the certainty of their own confined borders.

To each their own.
