Celebrate Your Success
Are you pandering to me, self?
You freaking bet I am.
As with anything, everything in moderation. Not looking to throw wild raging parties for each small check off my list, but get in the HABIT of rewardiung yourself in small ways and getting pumped about building momentum.
Every day I start with the most obvious and ridiculously simple tasks:
Make coffee. Take the dog out. Use the restroom.
Wait… what? Slash, gross!
But seriously: I always have a long list of things I’d like to accomplish on any given day… but I start each morning with momentum. Check, check, and CHECK! YEAH, BABY!
Look at me go!
LOL!
Yeah, I am that ridiculous.
But at the end of the day I’m looking to motivate MYSELF and if small doses of “you can do it!” attidude do the trick, then by all means: get it, girl! (Or guy!)
False Sense of Accomplishment? Kind of.
You are Pavlov Lawing yourself. Rewarding and literally, treating yourself,
If you keep busting ass and your inner tyrrant taps her fingerpads together and says in an evil voice, “Marvelous! But keep going.” The kinder, hardworking, eager to please side of you might start to resent all the hard work. Or perhaps even put it off. Even if I DO get through this giant task I’m dreading, what’s the use? My inner slave driver will have at least a hundred more tasks waiting for me.
Less is more. There’s no need to reward yourself with diamond earrings or a new car (unless you’re balling out of control and that’s your thing. You do you.)
For me, I’m motivated by sweets. Go figure. LOL.
For me, it’s the promise of an ice cream cone, a fruit drink (specifically, a bottle of Blackberry Izze and a bar of chocolate is enough to get me going.)
Maybe I give myself permission to watch a movie and do absolutely nothing.
Maybe it’s a lunch from my favorite restaurant.
Of course the idea is to not endlessly pamper yourself without means, but to pleasantly “surprise” yourself and get yourself into the habit of taking on a task, completing it, feeling a tiny jolt of joy and celebration.
Some people may think this is childish and stupid (and hey, who am I to stop you from rolling your eyes?) but for me, it keeps me incredibly motivated. And super happy to enjoy my favorite treats here and there and keep life enjoyable and memorable.
This yoga quote is striking in real life application.
Good like teflon, bad like velcro. 5 good things to equal 1 bad occurrence.
Focusing on the red dot a sea of yellow dots.
Tony Robbins, see the brown. Close your eyes. Notice everything blue.
Wait, what?
The point? We literally see what we look for.
If we continually focus on the bad we are bound to be depressed and blue.
Focus on what's good. Like gratitude.
Also great for building self esteem
