Why Yin?

Musings • Peace to the People • Why Yin

It often seems increibly obvious to me what some studnets need—the exact opposite of stress, striving, and constantly overstimulating their nervous systems.

Ironically, the people who tend to need this counterbalance the most in their lives are the most stubborn in rebelling what seems, to a third party observing, extremely obvious.

I can paint a picture of so many I know: running, running, running, literally, figuratively, taking care of the kids, working full time jobs, cooking, cleaning, working out, stressed at home, at work, at the gym, going, going, going, going, going—NO TIME TO SLOW DOWN—going, going, going, and at last, so surprisingly, these people eventually hit a brick wall and suffer from burnout or depression.

As kindly as I can say it: derp.

I admit that this did not immediately click for me either, as years ago I was working full time, in the middle of 500 Hour Teacher Training, in night school, starting up my company, balancing marketing for multiple companies, and teaching over fifteen yoga and fitness classes a week.

I was on the GO! Charged up, but more often: freaking exhausted.

In hindsight, of course what I needed was to slow down and make space, but at the time it seemed an impossible feat.

This understanding first needs to come from within, be genuine, and the shift that follows I damn near guarantee will change your life for the better.

From frantic rushing to calm peace.

All circumstances the same. The self? Transformed.

Yin Yoga: adding heat to heat is unsustainable. Crash and burn.
